Title: Fake News and Online Manipulation: the Post Truth Era

Absract: Every day brings its share of manipulation, disinformation, rumor, and fake news. It is not easy to find yourself in this era of post truth. This situation is exacerbated by the power of new technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms. Fake news are everywhere, and manipulation permeates all aspects of society.  It aims to influence our choices and behaviors for good and evil, but users lose control over their data in both cases. They find themselves blithely divulging their personal information on the Internet, thus falling prey to clever and underhanded manipulation on the part of social media, companies, organizations, or hackers. The consequences can be disastrous, including addiction, depression, behavioral problems, cyberbullying, identity theft, etc. This conference answers the following questions: How did we come at this state of large-scale fake news and online manipulation? How can artificial intelligence and new technologies fight against this tide while continuing with their significant advances? What ecosystem can we put in place for the future security of our society?

Short Biography:

TitleMobile Computing, Internet of Things, and Big Data Analytics for Urban Informatics

Abstract: Urban informatics is emerging as a new discipline for cities and governments to improve the lives of citizens using information technology. Today, mobile computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data are enabling technologies for advancing the state-of-the-art in urban informatics. For example, the New York City produces a terabyte of raw data every
day about electricity to parking tickets (http://cusp.nyu.edu/urban-informatics/). The large-scale nature of data collected by city governments necessitates the use of big data technologies for effectively analyzing and querying the massive and heterogeneous amounts of data that are generated from IoT interactions and user interactions on mobile devices for
obtaining actionable insights. In this talk, I will introduce the key challenges and opportunities in urban informatics, provide interesting use cases, and discuss topics in mobile computing and big data analytics, which are relevant to designing next-generation applications for urban informatics.

Short Biography:Anirban Mondal is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Ashoka University, India. His broad research interest is in big data analytics, urban informatics,
financial analytics, mobile crowdsourcing, large-scale distributed systems and database indexing. He has an established reputation, key presence & high visibility in the international research community. He has numerous publications in key conferences/journals and has also been actively involved as a PC Chair/Co-chair, PC member, journal reviewer as well as
keynote/tutorial speaker at reputed international conferences/workshops.
He has served as an ACM India Eminent Speaker and has also been awarded the prestigious JSPS (Japanese Society for Promotion of Sciences) Fellowship. He has research collaborations with prestigious Universities in Japan, Singapore, USA, Australia and India. Prior to this, he has worked in organizations such as University of Tokyo, Xerox Research Lab and IIIT Delhi. Based on his industry experience in designing practical research applications in urban informatics and financial analytics, he has four USPTO granted patents and several filed patents. He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the
National University of Singapore, an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) and a BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
